The Joy of Giving and Receiving God created the human heart beautifully and perfectly, to open through simple acts of giving and receiving. Much of this knowledge has been lost in the current industrial age, however simpler societies have retained this knowing, and those who are undergoing severe trials due to disaster, are re-discovering the great joy and blessing that comes from sharing one's blessings with their fellow human beings. Now giving and receiving must be balanced in life. There are those whose hearts are wounded, and giving brings the beautiful opening of the heart but does not heal the inner pain. For these souls, what is needed is healing, and the consciousness and responsibility to see where one's motivation to give has become self serving. When one's own inner needs are met, giving can happen freely and with the full measure of God's love. When the motivation to give is to avoid one's own inner pain, then the giving becomes more limited in vibration, and God's love is not able to flow as freely within this situation. Giving also needs to be balanced realistically with what is possible in one's own capacity at the time. For those undergoing severe trials, challenges and difficulties, the ability to give will be less because all resources are being funneled into the process of getting through the difficulty. For these souls, it is important to feel free to give when possible, without the inner pressure to do more than is possible. Also for these souls, receiving becomes very important, as a way of replenishing and healing the weary spirit. Receiving requires the humility to accept another's gift, and is a precious and blessed gift that also opens the heart. Receiving offers another the ability to reach forward and share, and offers the self the ability to feel loved and nourished and supported. Receiving must also happen in balance, for there are those who feel so chronically empty that they arrange their lives to be the recipient of much giving from others, but without the openness of heart to be in the flow and the balance of giving. There is an important teaching within the process of giving and receiving, that has to do with the full and willing participation in life. If one only gives, or only receives, there is a lack of balance that ultimately limits one to a less full experience of the beauty of God's love. Giving and receiving fully, opens the doorway to a rich and full experience that is the manifestation of God's love on Earth. May all beings be blessed. May all beings be at peace. May all beings know and feel God's holy and blessed love at every moment. Amen. Copyright ©2005 WorldBlessings.com

MS. LYDIA YONEYAMA

Ms. Lydia Yoneyama,  our Peruvian benefactor married to Japanese/Peruvian has been known by former Scholars of Bright Light for Life Society Foundation, Inc.. She has been helping the foundation since the day it was still headed by the late Founder Mrs. Josefina B. A LIFE THAT MATTERS...

WHAT WILL MATTER
By Michael Josephson

Ready or not, someday it will all come to an end.

There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours, or days.
All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.
Your wealth, fame, and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.

It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.
Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies will finally disappear.
So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists will expire.

The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.
It won't matter where you came from, or on what side of the tracks you lived, at the end.
It won't matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant
Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.

So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured?

What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built; not what you got, but what you gave.
What will matter is not your success, but your significance.
What will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught.

What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example.

What will matter is not your competence, but your character.
What will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you're gone.

What will matter is not your memories, but the memories that live in those who loved you.
What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom and for what.

Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident. It's not a matter of circumstance but of choice.

Choose to live a life that matters.

THE JOY OF GIVING

There is nothing more refreshing, more inspiring, more wonderful than the smile on the face of someone you have just done something helpful for or when they receive a gift. There is an immense feeling of pride that rushes over us when we have given someone a gift that they might have needed, loved or enjoy greatly. That is primarily why the hit TV show, “Extreme Makeover home edition,” is so popular, the show’s hosts, volunteers, construction workers, and viewers alike all feel the joy of giving a family the dream of a lifetime.

Offering a hand to someone who needs it, giving away the things we don’t use to those who don’t have much, and just sending a note of thought to a distant friend or relative. These are the simple ideas of giving, the random acts of kindness such as helping a senior citizen with their groceries, allowing someone in front of you in the grocery store that has one item compared to your many items, or simply picking something up for someone; these are just a few simple things that will show we care.

Preschool
While it is hard to conduct ourselves as perfectly as we would like with work, bills, responsibilities, obligations and children, we sometimes get lost in the maze of life. Sometimes we just don’t want to read a book, or tuck our children in bed at night, if you felt this way you’d be no different than thousands of other parents out there and sometimes it’s okay. As much as possible be giving of quality time to your children this will create an atmosphere that encourages children to feel loved, needed and cared for, which will ultimately be a quality they will easily display to others.

Sharing is more than just a great quality to have it really shows that we are giving others. Young children may have a tougher time sharing, especially if they are an only child or are accustomed to playing alone. Encouraging sharing starts with the understanding that we are all sharing of ourselves, “Mom shares with you all the wonderful things in life and it feels so nice to share with you, don’t you want to share your toys with others and see your friends play happily.”

Main points to address:

  • Model a caring behavior.
  • Spend quality time with your child.
  • Encourage sharing.

Grades K-6th
A one-on-one talk with children can change more things in a child’s life than anything else would be able to. Think of how special this has made you feel in the past when your role model or mentor took out the time to listen to you and advise (not preach) you on various topics. Ask your children how they feel about others (the homeless, other students, senior citizens, etc.) and listen closely to their thoughts and feelings. Model your thoughts around theirs “I also feel terrible for people who don’t have homes, do you think there is anything we can do to help them?”

If they feel there is, this can take you to your next process of volunteering at homeless shelters, charity events, or other needy organizations. Allow your child to feel as though this was there idea (if they say they would like to then really, it was) and congratulate them on caring enough to take action. Many people can feel bad about certain situations; it’s those who take action that will change the world. Let them know that they are one of those people who could ultimately change the world.

However, we don’t have to stop with the homeless shelters, what about your local community. Did a new neighbor move in? Do you have a senior living alone? If so, make an effort to welcome that new neighbor with a welcome package, make sure they know the area or have information about community resources or other information you have found helpful when you first moved in. Take a meal to that senior living alone and make sure they have someone taking them to the store or there doctor’s appointments. If not, “normally,” a transportation unit is designated for seniors. On the other hand, you can contact local resource centers to see if there are resources that can potentially help seniors in need. You and your child can also get involved with neighborhood events or charity drives locally.

Main points to address:

  • Volunteer at local charities and/or events.
  • Talk to children about caring.
  • Help neighbors or get involved with neighborhood events.

Bright light...
for a Better Life!

Many things would have to be real slow in coming, but still they're coming. When we first started, the organization barely had a system
that we have right now. We may need a lot of brushing up, but we look forward to the new generation sharing brilliant ideas to make this a lot better for us and a lot helpful to those we serve.

On top of what the organization does- outreach, scholarship grants, community service, civic activities, awareness programs, we also could want to cultivate a culture among us that is constructive and pro-active.

Way to go!
